Rochelle Tasca is a visual artist and Calligrapher based in Southern, New England. In 2014, she graduated from the Norwich Free Academy as a recipient of the Thomas J. Wozniak Memorial Drawing Award for excellence in drawing, as well as the Wendy Lynn Baribeault Memorial Fund Art Award for advanced placement in painting. Tasca received a BFA in drawing with a minor in painting from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, a college of the University of New Haven, during the spring of 2019.
Currently, her work centralizes on fabricating innovative forms with anatomical alterations. These humanoid and anthropomorphized subjects act as manifestations of sexual trauma, loss, violation, neglect, depression and chronic illness. While projecting an influence by the hands of Albrecht Durer, calligraphic mark-making is utilized to evoke sensations of sculptural dimension to the overall content.
Beginning as a pencil sketch, each work gets refined and adjusted before the final idea is conceived. A series of these sketches grow to configure different permutations of dynamic-fusion arrangements. They are then transferred onto a larger surface, with where more intimate line work and detail is applied.
